Custom Airfoil Analysis
Analyze an airfoil using XFoil and add it to the database.
XFoil unfortunately has a very steep learning curve. It has taken me a long time to learn how to effectively deal with its many quirks.
It takes my workstation 3-6 hours to analyze one airfoil, depending on how much trouble XFoil has with it. Why this long? First I need to compute 5,000 XFoil result sets. Then I need to smoothly interpolate in two dimensions each of the resulting six values in each result set. Then all this data needs to be compressed down so the calculator can load it quickly. Hey, the calculator is fast and accurate for a reason!
I will look at the airfoil file and run it through XFoil using my bag of tricks. After it runs, I’ll look at the results and give you my interpretation on what I saw.
The coordinates need to be in the standard DAT file format. Use the Contact Form to send me the file.
